This 15.3-hand bay gelding retired sound from racing for being too slow.  He is super cute with a sweet face and big heart. Jack is getting some down time after arriving to our program, and seems to be a nice mover and an easy boy to handle. He has had three post track rides, and has been willing and level headed. Cribs but it is controlled with a collar.

Jerry is well bred and just a lovely boy to be around, in addition to being really eye catching. Jerry was retired in partnership with Turning for Home who arranged for surgical removal of a knee chip in February 2025. Jerry has been recovering with us, and has an excellent prognosis to go any direction. He was a true gentleman to handle during his stall rest, and is on small turnout. Jerry is ready to start getting back to work as of April 2025.

Bourbon donated to us and upon his arrival was rehabbing for a minor suspensory strain in the left front in May of 2025. A diagnostic ultrasound was completed as well an an X-rays of the right front which also showed he has had a fracture with a screw that was later removed. He has since healed from the mild suspensory injury but we do not have any information about the screw or injury that occurred prior to, we do have recent X-rays of the ankle.

This big beautiful gelding Bourbon has an overall kind and calm demeanor.  His last race was in 10/2024, and just retired from the track last month he has handled it all with ease. Bourbon has been started under saddle and we are continuously impressed with how easy going he is. We are working on building muscle as he rides to keep him engaged and forward, and his canter is so comfortable, you could sit to all day long!

Pasture Partner Horses

Johnny Ritt

Jockey Club Name: Johnny Ritt
16.1 H 2017 Bay Gelding
Adoption Fee: $1 (minimum) donation

Every so often, a truly remarkable rehabilitation case comes our way. Meet Johnny Ritt, a talented racehorse who led a successful racing career, earning nearly $500,000 and just under 50 starts; he's as close to a war horse as possible! But his final race ended in heartbreak after a devastating accident left him with a severely wrenched back. Turning for Home supported Johnny as he transitioned him over to the Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center receive top-notch care at, and then spent six months at New Beginnings Thoroughbreds for further rehabilitation under the close watch of our vet. But through it all: the vet visits, the stall rest, the slow healing, Johnny has remained one of the kindest, most gentle souls to ever grace our barn.

He’s made incredible such incredible progress, but what we’ve learned most is this: Johnny thrives when life is calm, quiet, and full of kindness. While we once imagined him stepping into a therapy role, it’s clear that what he really deserves is a loving retirement, as a human companion pasture partner. He may still be a fit for the right Equine-Assisted Services program depending on the need, but above all, Johnny is ready to settle into a safe, forever home where he can simply be.

If you have space in your pasture (and your heart) for a horse with a remarkable story and gentle spirit, Johnny may be your perfect match. If you're interested in being a part of Johnny's journey and helping him reach his full potential, please reach out.  Together, we can make a difference in this special horse's life!

We're so appreciative of everyone who's been apart of Johnny's village including (but not limited to), Turning for Home (TFH), Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center, Dr. Ginn, and so many Parx horsemen and supporters throughout his journey.
